If your peace lily has plenty of healthy green leaves but refuses to bloom, don’t give up. In most cases, the plant is simply missing one or two key conditions it needs to produce flowers.
The good news is that peace lilies are generally willing bloomers once their environment closely resembles the tropical conditions they naturally prefer.
1. Give It Bright, Indirect Light
The Ideal Location
Place your peace lily near:
- An east-facing window
- A bright north-facing window
- A few feet back from a sunny south or west window
The goal is bright, filtered light.
Avoid:
- Deep shade
- Dark corners
- Harsh direct afternoon sunlight
A peace lily can survive in low light, but flowering becomes much less likely.
A Helpful Clue
If your plant produces lots of leaves but no flowers, insufficient light is often the first thing to investigate.
2. Water Correctly (Not Constantly)
Peace lilies enjoy consistently moist soil, but they dislike sitting in water.
Best Practice
Water when the top inch of soil feels slightly dry.
Then:
- Water thoroughly
- Allow excess water to drain away
- Empty saucers if water collects underneath
