How to Make Good Italian Anise Christmas Cookies

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  • Cream the softened butter and sugar together in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  • Add the anise extract, milk, and eggs one by one, mixing well after each addition.
  • Incorporate the all-purpose flour gradually, mixing until just combined. Then, add the baking powder and salt.
  • Prepare your baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper. Scoop out dough into 1.5 tbsp balls and place them on the sheets.
  • Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the tops of your cookies look dry.
  • Cool the cookies for about 10 minutes on the baking sheets before transferring them to wire racks.
  • Mix the glaze by combining powdered sugar, milk, and anise extract until smooth.
  • Dip the cooled cookies into the glaze and sprinkle with colorful nonpareils.
