Ingredients

  • 1 small glass or plastic container This will hold the eruption mixture.
  • 1 cup baking soda Main ingredient for the eruption.
  • 1 cup vinegar Reactant for the eruption.

  • 1 tablespoon dish soap Optional to enhance foam.

Tools

  • 1 tray or baking sheet To catch the overflow.
  • 1 knife For carving the pumpkin.
  • 1 spoon For scooping out pumpkin seeds and flesh.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Use a knife to carefully carve a circle around the pumpkin's stem, creating a lid that you can remove.
  • Take a spoon and remove all the seeds and stringy flesh from the inside, making it as clean as possible.

Creating the Volcano

  • Set your glass or plastic container inside the pumpkin, ensuring it fits snugly.
  • Pour about 1 cup of baking soda into the container.

Mixing the Eruption Ingredients

  • For extra foam, add a tablespoon of dish soap to the baking soda.
  • If using, add a few drops of liquid food coloring for vibrant eruptions.

Erupt!

  • Slowly pour the vinegar into the container.
  • Enjoy the spectacle as the reaction creates a colorful, bubbling eruption that spills out of the pumpkin!

Notes

Experiment with different food coloring combinations, add glitter for extra effect, and choose your container wisely for dramatic eruptions.
