For the cobbler

  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter (melted) Melted for the base.
  • 1 cup self-rising flour Helps with the structure of the cobbler.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar For sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup milk Adds moisture.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans Provides the signature nutty flavor.
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar Creates the luscious, caramel-like filling.
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water To help create the filling during baking.

Instructions

Preparation and Baking

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Pour melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13” baking dish.
  • In a bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, milk, and vanilla until just combined (don’t overmix).
  • Carefully pour this batter over the butter in the baking dish – do not stir.
  • Sprinkle chopped pecans evenly over the batter.
  • Then, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.
  • Gently pour the hot water over everything – again, do not stir.
  • Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and set, and the caramel is bubbling up around the edges.
  • Let cool for 10–15 minutes before serving – the filling will thicken as it rests.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For a cozy twist, add a pinch of cinnamon or a dash of bourbon to the batter. Ideal for Thanksgiving, potlucks, or any fall gathering.
