Pour melted butter into the bottom of a 9×13” baking dish.
In a bowl, mix together flour, granulated sugar, milk, and vanilla until just combined (don’t overmix).
Carefully pour this batter over the butter in the baking dish – do not stir.
Sprinkle chopped pecans evenly over the batter.
Then, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top.
Gently pour the hot water over everything – again, do not stir.
Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes, or until the top is golden and set, and the caramel is bubbling up around the edges.
Let cool for 10–15 minutes before serving – the filling will thicken as it rests.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For a cozy twist, add a pinch of cinnamon or a dash of bourbon to the batter. Ideal for Thanksgiving, potlucks, or any fall gathering.
