Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp Unsalted butter Creates smooth base
  • 6 cups Regular marshmallows Primary binding agent
  • 4 cups Rice Krispies cereal Texture foundation
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Enhances sweetness
  • As needed Red food coloring Creates brain effect

Instructions

Preparation

  • Fill a medium saucepan with ½ cup of water and bring it to a gentle boil.
  • Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan to create a bain-marie.
  • In the heatproof bowl, add the butter and marshmallows. Melt slowly, stirring with a whisk until smooth and glossy.
  • Once melted, remove the bowl from heat. Whisk in the salt and add 2-3 drops of red food coloring.

Mixing

  • Pour the marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispies in a large mixing bowl. Stir quickly to coat the cereal evenly.

Shaping

  • Oil your hands lightly and take portions of the mixture to shape into oval forms.
  • Use a butter knife to carve a groove down the center of each oval.
  • Dip a toothpick in more food coloring to draw vein patterns on the surfaces.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature. For a crunchy texture, add crushed candy or sprinkles into the mixture.
