Instructions
Preparation
Fill a medium saucepan with ½ cup of water and bring it to a gentle boil.
Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan to create a bain-marie.
In the heatproof bowl, add the butter and marshmallows. Melt slowly, stirring with a whisk until smooth and glossy.
Once melted, remove the bowl from heat. Whisk in the salt and add 2-3 drops of red food coloring.
Mixing
Pour the marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispies in a large mixing bowl. Stir quickly to coat the cereal evenly.
Shaping
Oil your hands lightly and take portions of the mixture to shape into oval forms.
Use a butter knife to carve a groove down the center of each oval.
Dip a toothpick in more food coloring to draw vein patterns on the surfaces.
Notes
Store in an airtight container at room temperature. For a crunchy texture, add crushed candy or sprinkles into the mixture.
