Ingredients

Custard Mixture

  • 6 pieces King’s Hawaiian Rolls Any sweet roll can be used in place of Hawaiian rolls, but texture may vary.
  • 4 large Large Eggs Egg replacer can be used for a vegan version.
  • 1 cup Half and Half or Whole Milk Milk alternatives like almond or oat milk can also work well.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Substituting with maple extract gives it a unique twist if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon Feel free to increase the amount for an extra cinnamon kick.
  • 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar White sugar can be used in a pinch, though it won't have the same depth.
  • 1 pinch Salt Do not skip; even a small amount makes a remarkable difference.

Cooking

  • 2 tablespoons Butter Use clarified butter for a higher smoke point if preferred.

Serving

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar Optional, depending on your sweetness preference.
  • 1 cup Fresh Fruit Seasonal fruits offer variety and freshness.
  • 1/2 cup Maple Syrup Honey or agave syrup can stand in for a different flavor profile.

Instructions

Cooking Steps

  • Whisk together eggs and half and half in a large bowl until fully mixed, creating a rich custard base.
  • Incorporate vanilla, ground cinnamon, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt into the egg mixture, whisking until everything is well blended.
  • Poke holes in the bottom of each King's Hawaiian roll using a fork, allowing the custard to soak in beautifully.
  • Dip rolls into the custard mixture for no more than 30 seconds, being careful to turn them for even soaking.
  • Melt butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat.
  • Cook soaked rolls for 30-60 seconds per side until they attain a gorgeous golden-brown color.
  • Serve warm, dusted with powdered sugar and topped with fresh fruit and maple syrup.

Notes

Optional: Garnish with whipped cream for an extra touch of indulgence.
