Equipment

  • waffle iron

Ingredients

For the Waffle Batter

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour Substitute with gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
  • 2 tablespoons Baking Powder Ensure freshness for best results.
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon Can be replaced with apple pie spice for similar flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg Optional but recommended for depth.
  • 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar Brown sugar can be used for a richer flavor.
  • 2 large Eggs For egg-free, use flax eggs.
  • 1 cup Milk Use any variety (dairy or non-dairy).
  • 1/2 cup Melted Butter Can substitute with vegetable oil or coconut oil.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Use pure vanilla for the best results.
  • 2 cups Apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Firm apples are essential for texture.

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar Alternative: use confectioners’ erythritol for a lower-sugar version.
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Almond or oat milk work as substitutes.

Instructions

Prepare the Donuts

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and granulated sugar.
  • In another bowl, mix the eggs, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until combined.
  • Gently mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients using a spatula. Stop as soon as there are no visible dry streaks!
  • Carefully fold in the diced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp apples, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • Preheat your waffle iron according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Lightly spray or brush the surfaces with oil to prevent sticking.
  • Spoon the batter onto the waffle iron, closing it gently and cooking for about 3-4 minutes until the exterior is golden brown and crispy.
  • In a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar with a splash of milk until you reach a thick yet pourable consistency. Add a hint of vanilla for an extra flavor boost!
  • Once the waffles are done and slightly cooled, generously drizzle the glaze over them, allowing it to set before serving.

Notes

Serve warm topped with whipped cream for a delightful treat!
