Instructions
Making the Chocolate Mousse
Chop the semisweet chocolate and place it in a bowl.
Heat 1 cup of heavy cream in a saucepan until it just simmers.
Pour the hot cream over the chopped chocolate. Stir until smooth.
Cover this mixture and put it in the fridge for 15 to 30 minutes to cool.
In another bowl, whip the remaining 2 cups of heavy cream with the powdered sugar until stiff peaks form.
Gently fold the whipped cream into the cooled chocolate until blended. Place this mousse in the fridge until you are ready to use it.
Making the Ganache
Heat 1 cup of heavy cream until it simmers, then pour it over the dark chocolate chips.
Stir until the mixture is smooth and glossy. Set aside.
Preparing the Oreo Dirt
Crush 24 Oreos coarsely for chunks and crush 16 Oreos finely for crumbs. Set them aside.
Assembly
Get some cups ready. Pipe a layer of the chocolate mousse into each cup.
Add a spoonful of the coarsely crushed Oreo chunks on top.
Drizzle some ganache over the cookie chunks.
Add another layer of mousse, followed by more Oreo chunks and ganache.
Finally, sprinkle the finely crushed Oreos on top to create your 'dirt'.
Making Slimy Worms
Prepare the lime gelatin according to the package instructions, using 2 cups of boiling water.
Add the unflavored gelatin and let it cool to room temperature.
Mix in the heavy cream and, if you want, a few drops of neon green food coloring.
Arrange bendy straws in a cup, fill them with the gelatin, and freeze in two stages.
Once frozen, remove the straws to create worm shapes. Place these 'worms' on top of your dirt cups.
Creating Graveyard Dirt
Use the black frosting to pipe 'R.I.P' on the cookies, then insert them into the dirt cups.
Top with eyeballs, gummy worms, and skull candies for extra fun.
Making Ghost Dirt
Pipe a swirl of Cool Whip on top and draw eyes and a mouth with the black frosting.
Making Pumpkin Patch Dirt
Tint some vanilla frosting green and pipe it to look like vines. Top with mellowcreme pumpkins.
Making Melting Witch Dirt
Color the frosting green, pipe it into a swirl, then place an Oreo with a Hershey’s Kiss for a hat.
Decorate with black frosting for hair and add candy eyes.
Making Bat Dirt Cups
Attach a halved Oreo to a Reese’s Cup using frosting for bat wings. Add candy eyes.
Making Monster Eye Dirt Cups
Split a mint Oreo, put a large candy eye in the center, and surround it with small candy eyes.
Notes
Store leftovers in the refrigerator covered with plastic wrap or foil for up to two days. Best enjoyed when freshly made. Let chocolate cool before folding into whipped cream for a light and fluffy mousse.
