  • 1 cup buttermilk can mix regular milk with lemon juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract can substitute almond extract
  • 1/2 cup red and green sprinkles avoid nonpareils

How to Make Festive Christmas Bread

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9x5-inch loaf pan by greasing it lightly with butter or lining it with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together in a medium bowl the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
  • Mix melted unsalted butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl until smooth and creamy. Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract and buttermilk.
  • Combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, gently folding them together until just mixed.
  • Fold in the red and green sprinkles gently, taking care not to overmix.
  • Pour the batter into your prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. If desired, sprinkle coarse sugar or additional sprinkles on top.
  • Bake for 45-55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs. Cool in the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an optional touch, serve with a drizzle of vanilla glaze for added sweetness. Allow the bread to cool completely for cleaner slices and optimal flavor enhancement.
