  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Whole wheat flour can be used.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted Adds richness.

Instructions

Making Pretzels

  • In a large bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar together. Let it sit for 5 minutes to become frothy.
  • Stir in melted butter and salt into the yeast mixture. Gradually add all-purpose flour until a soft dough forms.
  • Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Divide the dough into 12 pieces, roll each into a rope, and twist into pretzel shape.
  • Boil water and add baking soda. Drop each pretzel into boiling solution for 30 seconds.
  • Brush each pretzel with beaten egg and sprinkle with holiday sprinkles.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes
