Ingredients

For the Batter

  • 1 cup fresh apple cider or apple juice
  • 4 tablespoons butter melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar plus extra for coating
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt or sour cream
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves freshly ground
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

For the Glaze

  • 4 tablespoons melted butter for dipping
  • 1 cup cinnamon sugar

  • In a small saucepan, simmer 1 cup of fresh apple cider over medium heat until it reduces to about 1/4 cup.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pans.
  • In a large bowl, combine the reduced cider, melted butter, granulated sugar, egg, Greek yogurt, and vanilla extract. Whisk until smooth.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture gently until just combined.
  • Transfer the batter to a piping bag to fill the donut pans about 2/3 full.
  • Bake for 9-11 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool for a few minutes in the pan, then dip each donut in melted butter and roll in cinnamon sugar.

Notes

Store baked donuts in an airtight container for up to 1-2 days at room temperature, or refrigerate for up to 5 days. Freeze for up to 3 months.
