Equipment

  • Slow Cooker
  • skillet (optional)
  • tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2–2 pounds beef round steak, cut into 4 pieces
  • 1 14.5-ounce can diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1 10.5-ounce can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • salt and black pepper to taste (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon oil for searing (optional)

Instructions

  • Trim excess fat and cut round steak into four pieces. Season lightly with salt and pepper if desired.
  • Optional: Heat oil in a skillet and sear steak 1–2 minutes per side until browned.
  • Place sliced onion in bottom of slow cooker and lay steak pieces on top.
  • Pour diced tomatoes with juices over steak. Spoon condensed soup over top and gently spread without stirring.
  • Cover and cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 3 1/2–4 hours until fork-tender.
  • Adjust seasoning if needed and serve with mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.

Notes

Searing adds deeper flavor but is optional. For thicker gravy, remove lid during final 20–30 minutes or stir in cornstarch slurry.
