Ingredients

  • 4 oz jarred dried beef
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices thick white bread, toasted
  • 1 dash Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pinch cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Rinse dried beef under warm water to remove excess salt. Pat dry and chop into bite-sized pieces.
  • Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add beef and sauté for 2–3 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour over the beef and stir constantly for 1–2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in milk, stirring to prevent lumps.
  • Simmer for 3–5 minutes until thickened, adjusting with more milk if needed.
  • Season with black pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne if using. Serve over toast.

Notes

Rinse the dried beef well to reduce saltiness before cooking.
