Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook ground beef and onion until browned. Drain excess grease and season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
In a bowl, whisk cream of mushroom soup with milk until smooth.
Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish. Top with half of the cooked meat, half of the soup mixture, and some cheese.
Repeat layers with remaining potatoes, meat, soup mixture, and cheese.
Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake 15–20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is golden.
Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Let the casserole rest before serving for best structure. Slice potatoes thinly for even cooking.
