Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup whipped cream or whipped topping
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for filling
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and grease two round cake pans.
  • Whisk flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add eggs, oil, milk, and vanilla. Mix until smooth.
  • Divide batter between pans and bake 30–35 minutes. Cool completely.
  • Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Fold in whipped cream.
  • Spread filling between cake layers.
  • Heat cream until warm. Pour over chocolate chips and stir until smooth.
  • Pour ganache over cake and let set before slicing.

Notes

Let the cake chill slightly before slicing for clean layers.
