Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 11 oz refrigerated French bread dough
  • 1/3 cup ketchup
  • 3 tbsp mustard
  • 6 slices cooked and crumbled bacon
  • 2 dill pickle spears, chopped
  • 8 slices American cheese
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds
  • Thousand Island dressing for dipping

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment or spray with cooking spray.
  • Cook ground beef and onions over medium heat until browned. Season with salt and pepper and drain grease.
  • Roll out bread dough into a 12x18 inch rectangle on a floured surface.
  • Spread ketchup and mustard over the dough, leaving a small border.
  • Layer beef, bacon, pickles, and American cheese evenly across the dough.
  • Roll tightly from the long side and pinch seams to seal. Place seam-side down on the baking sheet.
  • Brush the loaf with beaten egg and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  • Bake 20–25 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  • Cool for 5 minutes before slicing. Serve with Thousand Island dressing.

Notes

Serve warm and pair with Thousand Island dressing for dipping. Slice after a brief cooling period for the cleanest layers.
