Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, sliced into thick rings or wedges
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup cream or sour cream
  • 2 cups shredded cheese
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • optional fresh herbs (parsley or thyme)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
  • Arrange onion slices evenly in the baking dish.
  • Dot or drizzle butter over the onions.
  • Pour cream over the onions to lightly coat them.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Bake until onions are tender and cheese is melted and golden.
  • Garnish with herbs if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Sweet onions work best. Garnish with fresh herbs for extra flavor and color.
