onions, sliced into thick rings or wedges

cream or sour cream

shredded cheese
salt to taste
black pepper to taste
optional fresh herbs (parsley or thyme)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 375°F and grease a baking dish.
Arrange onion slices evenly in the baking dish.
Dot or drizzle butter over the onions.
Pour cream over the onions to lightly coat them.
Sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top.
Season with salt and pepper.
Bake until onions are tender and cheese is melted and golden.
Garnish with herbs if desired and serve warm.
Notes
Sweet onions work best. Garnish with fresh herbs for extra flavor and color.
