Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 14 oz diced tomatoes (optional)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 0.5 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning (optional)
  • 5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter
  • 0.5 tsp salt for potatoes
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper for potatoes
  • 2 cups shredded cheese
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan (optional)

Instructions

  • Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper.
  • Brown ground meat with onion and garlic, then season and add tomatoes if using.
  • Spread meat mixture in a greased baking dish and top with mashed potatoes.
  • Sprinkle shredded cheese and Parmesan evenly over the potatoes.
  • Bake at 375°F for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and lightly golden.
