Ingredients

  • 4 cups milk
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Whisk milk and sugar together in a saucepan until dissolved.
  • Whisk eggs and cornstarch in a bowl until smooth, then slowly add to the milk while whisking.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened to a custard consistency.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter until smooth.
  • Serve warm or chill 1–2 hours before serving with toppings.

Notes
