Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 0.25 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce, divided
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Mix ground beef, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Shape mixture into 4–5 oval patties.
  • Brown patties briefly in oil and transfer to a baking dish.
  • Make gravy by melting butter, whisking in flour, then adding broth and seasonings.
  • Pour gravy over patties, cover, and bake 30–35 minutes.

Notes

Brown patties lightly for best flavor before baking.
