My Father’s Final Gift
My hands trembled as I accepted the envelope.
The military officer’s expression softened.
“Your father asked that this be delivered on a very specific day.”
I stared at him.
“My father passed away six years ago.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
His voice was gentle.
“And he planned this before that.”
The room behind me had become completely silent.
My stepmother stood frozen in the hallway.
My stepsisters no longer looked amused.
I carefully opened the envelope.
Inside was a handwritten letter.
The moment I saw my father’s familiar handwriting, tears filled my eyes.
