
Ingredients:
- 1 packet (2¼ tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm milk (110°F)
- ¼ cup sugar
- ⅓ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 tsp salt
- 3½–4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp melted butter (for brushing)
Instructions:
- Activate yeast: In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with a pinch of sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
- Make the dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar, butter, salt, egg, and yeast mixture. Gradually add flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms.
- Knead: Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 6–8 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Shape rolls: Punch down dough and divide into 12–15 equal pieces. Shape into balls and place on a greased baking tray.
- Second rise: Cover and let rise again for 30 minutes, until puffy.
- Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Bake rolls for 15–18 minutes, until golden brown.
- Finish with butter: Brush hot rolls with melted butter and serve warm.
