Ingredients:
- 2 lbs beef stew meat (or chuck roast, cut into chunks)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 packet brown gravy mix
- 1 packet dry onion soup mix
- 1 can cream of mushroom soup
- 1¾ cups water
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- 1 tbsp oil (for browning)
Instructions:
- Brown the beef: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Season beef with salt and pepper, then brown in batches. Don’t overcrowd the pan.
- Layer the goodness: Transfer browned beef to a slow cooker (or a large baking dish if using oven). Top with chopped onion.
- Mix the sauce: In a bowl, combine the brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, and water. Stir until smooth.
- Pour and cook: Pour the sauce over the beef and onions.
- Slow Cooker: Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or until beef is fork-tender.
- Oven Method: Cover tightly with foil and bake at 300°F (150°C) for about 3 hours.
- Serve and enjoy! The beef will be melt-in-your-mouth tender, swimming in rich mushroom gravy.
🍽️ Serving Ideas:
- Serve over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.
- Add steamed green beans or roasted carrots on the side for a full meal.
💡 Tips:
- Want extra mushrooms? Add fresh sliced mushrooms in with the beef before cooking.
- Great for meal prep — the flavors deepen even more the next day!
