🥢 Baked Sweet and Sour Chicken Recipe
Ingredients:
For the Chicken:
- 3–4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (cut into bite-sized chunks)
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 cup cornstarch
- 2 eggs (beaten)
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
For the Sweet and Sour Sauce:
- ¾ cup sugar
- 4 tbsp ketchup
- ½ cup distilled white vinegar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp garlic salt
Instructions:
- Prep the chicken: Preheat oven to 325°F (163°C). Season chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge each piece in cornstarch, then dip into beaten eggs.
- Brown it: Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add coated chicken pieces and cook until browned but not cooked through (you’ll finish it in the oven).
- Bake with the sauce: Transfer chicken to a greased 9×13 baking dish. In a bowl, whisk together all sauce ingredients and pour evenly over the chicken.
- Bake it to perfection: Bake uncovered for 1 hour. Turn the chicken every 15 minutes to coat well in the sticky sauce.
🍚 Serving Suggestions:
Serve over steamed white rice, fried rice, or even noodles. Add some stir-fried veggies on the side for a full takeout-style meal at home!
💡 Tips:
- Want extra tang? Add a splash of pineapple juice to the sauce!
- For easy cleanup, line your baking dish with foil.
