Ingredients:
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 1 cup crushed saltine crackers (or breadcrumbs)
- 1 cup milk
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk (for gravy)
- ½ cup water
Instructions:
- Make the patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, crushed crackers, milk, onion, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined. Shape into rectangular or oval patties (like “steaks”).
- Brown lightly: In a skillet, brown patties on both sides (they don’t need to cook through — just get color). Transfer to a baking dish.
- Make the gravy: In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, ½ cup milk, and water. Pour over the patties.
- Bake: Cover the dish with foil and bake at 350°F (175°C) for 45–50 minutes, until patties are cooked through and tender.
- Serve: Spoon gravy over the steaks and enjoy with mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.
