A true Southern classic, these Fried Green Tomatoes are golden on the outside, tangy and tender on the inside. Coated in seasoned cornmeal and fried to crispy perfection, they make the perfect appetizer, side dish, or snack – especially when dipped in a creamy sauce!
🛒 Ingredients:
- 3–4 firm green tomatoes (sliced 1/4-inch thick)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- Vegetable oil for frying
👩🍳 Directions:
- Prep the tomatoes: Slice green tomatoes and lay them on paper towels. Sprinkle with salt and let them sit for 10–15 minutes to draw out moisture. Pat dry.
- Set up your dredging station:
- Plate 1: flour
- Bowl 2: beaten eggs + milk
- Plate 3: mix cornmeal, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, paprika, salt & pepper
- Dredge each tomato slice in flour, dip in egg mixture, then coat in the breadcrumb/cornmeal mix. Press coating on firmly.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat until hot (but not smoking).
- Fry tomatoes in batches, 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm.
✨ Tips & Serving Ideas:
- Serve with ranch, remoulade, or a spicy aioli for dipping.
- For extra flavor, add grated Parmesan to the coating mix.
- Best enjoyed fresh, but you can reheat them in the oven or air fryer to keep them crisp.
Crunchy, tangy, and irresistibly Southern – these are fried green tomatoes done right. 🍽️
